They are fascinating creatures with a stunning variety of shapes, colours and behaviours, and you can find many of them in your own backyard! Often misunderstood, spiders are a vital part of Sydney’s ecosystems and actually help us out more than most people might realise. Spiders are some of our best allies in the fight against insect pests which cause damage and disease in cities. There are an estimated 3,500 species in Australia. Sydney is home to a glorious variety of spiders, from beautiful orb weavers to clever jumping spiders.
